These ultra leftists and their supporters want to take away our rights and enforce more federal control on our lives. When Elian was rescued at sea, I was torn between the rights of the father and the freedom of the child. I now realize that these are not the issues. Since Elian is a ward of the Cuban state, he should be afforded the same rights to political asylum as any Cuban adult.
