I'm from Grayson County in Kentucky and have recently experienced a devastating tornado. The tornado destroyed my Father and Uncle's dental clinic. The insurance company has been wonderfully cooperative and it seemed as though we'd be back in business in about a week utilizing a temporary building and rented equipment. However, the city of Leitchfield, governed by republicans (in name only), has decided to cause us problems by not allowing us to build on our land. I'm still waiting for more details but I do know that my Father and Uncle have been very vocal in opposition to the new city annex of our business and land and the city taxes which increase annually. The local officials ured us that we would benefit by receiving city sewage and garbage collections (which is more expensive than the private garbage collector that we were forced to stop utilizing). Now the city is claiming that because they never instituted the sewage system, we are not going to be able to build as we had planned. We have may patients that are in the middle of various procedures and treatments but it seems our"loving liberal politicians" are less than concerned about the healthcare and wellfare of these people. Oh, another thing, these same politicians, who shall remain nameless for now, are in the process of constructing an unnecessary by-p of Ky highway 62. This road happens to lie about 6 feet from our decimated clinic's entry. They have purposely avoided purchasing our office because they realize the practice would be costly. They have devised ridiculous plans to avoid this including elevating the road above the office so that our waiting room and secretary could see traffic tires whiz by near the top of the windows. Where is their desire for "safety first". My Father and Uncle are good Christian Conservatives who simply want to get back in business as quickly as possible to care for their patients, employees, and families. Granted they were not very cordial to our Lieutenant Gov. Steve Henry when he came to our town and wanted to set up in the clinic's parking lot, but why should they have to brown-nose with someone whom stands for everything that they detest? Is there anything we can do?
